At first glance, the schnauzer looks a bit funny. Or do we only see it that way? The long hair on his snout looks like a big mustache or mustache (some also say snot brake or pop catcher;)). The schnauzer has good manners. But he can also be a little rascal will, if he does not get enough challenges . If he is bored, he even starts to destroy things when in doubt. His owner should therefore be patient and decisive from the start in order to be a good "pack leader" for the Schnauzer. Otherwise the dog will take the lead.
He doesn't get along very well with strange dogs. He is always friendly , gentle and polite towards “his people” and dogs (and even cats) with whom he grew up . The schnauzer should be kept away from pets such as mice, rats and hamsters. His previous "job" as a pied piper could be dangerous for them.

Education and training

Before you get a schnauzer, you should also know that the dog needs a lot of exercise. Not only the giant schnauzer, but also the miniature schnauzer. He is a kind-hearted family dog, but he needs training and contact with other puppies from puppy age, otherwise he develops a very suspicious character.
Appearance
There are three schnauzers: the giant schnauzer, the schnauzer and the miniature schnauzer. All have long, distinctive mustaches and eye-catching, long eyebrows. Your fur is not as cozy as z. B. that of a Newfoundland dog, but rough and wiry. Their fur colors are black, "pepper and salt", white and black-silver.
Grooming
As long as you don't want to trim your dog's fur for dog shows, regular brushing is enough. history
The dogs don't actually have their mustaches because they look so beautiful. It was useful to the miniature schnauzers when hunting rats. That is why the Miniature Schnauzer is also called "Rattler". Especially when the mustache was a bit matted, it was able to move its snout close to the ground in search of rats without being injured or bitten. The schnauzer comes from Württemberg (Germany). He appears in paintings by the Dutch painter Rembrandt and the German painter Albrecht Dürer and has therefore existed at least since the 14th and 15th centuries. Century.
